“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Luke 23:34
Jesus was beaten up and all bruised up carrying that cross. getting spat at, getting mocked at, getting hit by total strangers by people who’ve seen him do miracles, people who’ve welcomed him during his Jerusalem triumphal entry. For the life of me, i don’t understand why someone would be graceous and forgiving. “They do not know what they’re doing”, what they did to the Lord is out of ignorance, they didn’t know that He is divine, that he is the Lord of Glory. Most of the time we are guilty of our sins but Jesus still overlooks that, sees the good in us and chose a gruesome death. Someone asked me why Jesus had to die, he said if God is merciful why did He not just forgive man of his sins and move on. I answered him this, “Because God is just and true to His word. Yes it would’ve been easy but that’s cheap grace. Someone has to die as ransom for us.We can’t save ourselves from eternal death. that’s grace.”
When we hold grudges to people, do we see it as grounds to not forgive people? do we see it as something we can hold againts a person? How do we take on Christ’s cross in this situation? Let this not be just another tradition we have to go through once a year, let’s really put Christ’s forgiveness into practice. He died for you and me, remember that.
